Derived from the actual situation in Southern parts of Rotterdam, in some neighbourhoods only 1 out of 4 people vote. This is related to issues of physical ability, distrust and social-economic status. More problematic, this relates to (self-exclusion) discrimination and local trust. Together with students, academics and practitioners, we will co-create ideas on this urban challenge of creating more inclusive local elections. In this CityLab we will explore how we could deepen our understanding and how to find solutions to tackle this wicked issue.

Language of the activity: English.

This CityLab will be led by :

  • Mark van Ostaijen, Assistant Professor at the Erasmus University Rotterdam
  • Marcel de la Haye, Top Civil Servant for Anti-Racism, Municipality of Rotterdam
