About Raphael. Prints from the Wittert Museum in the Grand Curtius.

The year 2020 was the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death, who was one of the emblematic geniuses of the Italian Renaissance. This Renaissance, which made man the central actor in a harmonious world, found a masterful interpreter in Raphael as well as an incomparable effective propagator. Raphael had his works reproduced in the form of engravings, which were widely distributed throughout Europe, including in Liège. A selection of these engravings, from the rich collections of the Wittert Museum, will be exhibited at the Grand Curtius Museum. The visitor will be invited to share the essential questions raised by Raphael’s creations: love, life, pleasure, passions, violence, death, the sacred, and the unceasing and multiform quest for beauty through art.

Languages of the activity: French.

This activity is presented  as part of the exhibition which is co-oranised by the Grand Curtius Museum and the Museum and Cultural Centre of the University of Liège (Wittert Museum), on the initiative of the Department of Art History of the Modern Age.

The scientific curators of the exhibiton, Prof. Dominique Allart and Dr Antonio Geremicca (University of Liège), will welcome the visitors and explain the purpose of the exhibition for which they will provide a brief guided tour.
